How to Test-drive Office 2013 Free for Six Months

Back in November, I told you how to get a 60-day trial of the then-new Microsoft Office 2013. That offer is still good, although it does require you to register with TechNet. 
If that's not an option, or you received an Office 2013 trial on a new PC or downloaded it via other channels, you're typically limited to 30 days to test-drive the suite.

Called Joeffice, it works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux as well as in browsers, according to the developer, Anthony Goubard. It includes a very basic word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation program and database software, Goubard said.

Google will retire its Checkout payment processing tool on Nov. 20, and warned retailers they will need to move to a different payment processing platform.

Checkout, which launched in 2006, was merged with Wallet, which is a mobile payments tool, last November. The product was aimed at taking on eBay's PayPal service, which dominates Web-based payments.

Google said it has partnered with Braintree, Shopify and Freshbooks to offer discounted options for retailers that have not yet selected an alternative payment processor.

SAP's co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe has said that he's "not concerned" about the rise of third party maintenance and support providers, such as Rimini Street and Spinnaker, as most of the software giant's install base wants access to innovation.

Third party support providers have been posting impressive growth figures in recent months, claiming that SAP customers no longer want to pay hefty maintenance fees. The likes of Rimini Street claim that they can reduce maintenance costs for SAP customers by at least 50 percent.
